There is one split about 10 inches long in the backboard starting at the bottom and going up. The battery box is a complete reproduction. The phone is marked with a metal tag on the door, and the arrestor is the "hitching post" style. The transmitter is marked and correct for the phone. The transmitter arm is correct and composed of cast iron with the coil in the base. The mouthpiece is a repro, and the cord is old. Inside, is a paper tag in the box (see pix). The 5 bar magneto is marked and is comprised of chrome bars. Both the switch hook and the ringer are unmarked and correct. Item 0837 is an American Electric double box style wood wall phone. It is made of quarter-sawed oak. The overall condition of both the wood and the finish is good to fair. The left front edge of the shelf part of the battery box has been repaired. four patched holes and one split. See pictures. The phone is well marked. It has a repro metal tag on the door of the top box that reads: "American Electric Tel. Co. Manufactured Chicago Independent System". This is the correct tag for the phone. The lightening arrestor is correct. The bells are steel but have been painted black. The receiver is old and unmarked. The transmitter is marked and reads: American Electric Tel. Co. Chicago Patented. " It is correct for the phone. The mouthpiece is old. The receiver cord is old and is a good black & red cord. The phone has a 4-bar unmarked magneto. The phone rings when cranked if receiver is in "hung up" mode and shunt button on left side of top box is pushed simultaneously. Both the switch and the ringer are unmarked and correct for the phone. The phone has two glass wet cell batteries.

American Electric oak doublebox is in very good condition and the finish is very good.  There is 1 patched hole in the left center at shelf level in the backboard.  There is 1 patched hole in the lower left backboard.  There are 2 pinholes in the left and right lower door; these do not go through.  There are 2 patched holes in the battery box, one on the left side and one on the right side.  The front panel of the battery box is split its entire length not along a glue seam.  The right 2 inches of the pencil stop has been replaced sometime in the past.  There is a call button on the left side of the box.  The receiver is old and unmarked.  The transmitter is marked American Electric; and the voice cone is made of wood; the mouthpiece doesn’t fit snugly right now because the wooden cone has been in a “dry” environment.  The 4 bar magneto is marked Holtzer Cabot and rings at the turn of the crank (while depressing call button).  There are 2 glass batteries in the box.

Item 2665 is an American Electric 2 box type wood wall phone. It has what is called a "Swing-A-Way" transmitter arm. The transmitter can be swung right, left, up and down to suit the user. The phone is made of quarter-sawed oak. The overall condition of both the wood and the finish is good. There is a hairline glue joint separation at the top of the backboard about one inch long. The hole in the switchook is shaped like a shield-vintage American electric. The phone has a new battery box made of quarter-sawed oak to the same size and shape of the original by a professional cabinetmaker. Identification is excellent. There is a metal nametag on the door that reads "Independent System American Electric Telephone Co. Manufacturers Chicago". The lightening arrestor is the "Hitching Post" style correct for this phone. The bells are nickel. The receiver is old and unmarked. The transmitter is marked "American Electric Tel. Co. Patented". The mouthpiece is old. The receiver cord is old. The phone has a 4-bar unmarked mag and it rings when cranked if the receiver is in the "Hung-Up mode. All bars are chrome. See the dark area on the door. The backboard and top box are both correct for the phone. The top box has a metal tag marked Chicago, and the switch hook is the correct and "early type". The lightening arrestor is the early Chicago type, complete w/fuses. The magneto is correct with laminated magnets; the phone rings at the turn of the crank. The receiver is old and is marked Kellogg. The mouthpiece and the receiver cap are both repros. The cord is new.The transmitter arm is cast iron with the coil in the base. Elkhart Ind. USA." The arrestor is fitted with the correct fuse type, and the bells are brass. The receiver is correct for the phone and has 2 longitudinal cracks in the shell. The transmitter is correct and marked as above; the arm is correct. The mouthpiece is a repro, and the cord is new. Inside, the 6 bar magneto is fitted with laminated chrome bars and rings at the turn of the crank. Both the switch hook and the ringer are unmarked and correct for the phone. Unbeknownst to us, the switch hook that came in the phone was broken; when we discovered this, we repaired/replaced the switch hook. Some of the pictures posted for item #195 show the "broken" switch hook; two new pictures have been taken of the repaired/replaced switch hook. **please note the 2 pictures marked "REVISED FEATURE" are pictures of the repaired/replaced switch hook. Eureka "Local & Long Distance Telephone oak double box.  All of the wood appears old except the shelf which is newer than the rest of the phone.  The top edge of the backboard is starting to split in one place (see pix); the lower edge is starting to split in 3 places (about 1 inch each).  There is one repaired hole near the left battery box mounting screw; there are 2 repaired holes near the right upper mounting screw.  The backboard of the top box is starting to split on a glue line; the split is about 6 inches in length.  There is a split in the right side panel of the top box on a glue line along its entire length.    There is a metal name tag on the door of the top box; inside is a 4 bar magneto with nickel plated bars; the magneto rings at the turn of the crank. There is one split four inches long at the top of the backboard on the right side at a glue joint. There is one split three inches long at the bottom of the backboard at the right side along a glue joint. There is one split two inches long at the top of the backboard on the left side. There is one split across the shelf at a glue joint. There is one split one and one-half inches long in the front panel of the battery box. The lower right side panel of the battery box has been patched. The topbox is correct and unmarked; the arrestor is correct, and the bells are worn nickel. The receiver is old and marked Stromberg Carlson on both the shell and cap. The transmitter is correct and marked; the arm is two piece steel. The mouthpiece is a repro, and the cord is new. Inside, the five bar magneto is marked, ahs chrome bar covers, and rings at the turn of the crank. Both the switch hook and ringer are correct for the phone. There are no batteries in the box.

Item 3250 is a Western Telephone Construction 2 box style wood wall telephone. It is made of quarter-sawed oak. The overall condition of both the wood and the finish is good. The phone has an unusual twin magnet ringer. The battery box is new having been made of quarter sawed oak by a professional cabinetmaker to the same size and shape of the original. The phone is extremely well marked. It has a metal ID tag on the door that reads "Western Telephone Company Chicago Ills." The thumbwheel is also marked the same way. The transmitter is also marked "Western Telephone Construction Company Chicago." The lightening arrestor is correct. The bells are nickel. The receiver is old and unmarked. The transmitter arm is cast iron coil in the base with exposed terminals type correct for this phone. The mouthpiece is old. The receiver cord is new. The phone has a 5 bar unmarked red magneto. The phone rings when cranked if the receiver is in the "hung-up" mode. Both the switch and the ringer are correct for this phone. The switch is most unusual and mounted on the right side of the top box.
